Our origins

Specialising in carbon and graphite

With over 150 years of experience in the production of carbon and graphite products, combined with constant further developments, Graphite Cova is one of the leading companies worldwide in this field.

Established in Nuremberg in 1855, our company initially produced pencils, amplifying its range later with arc lamp carbons. In the beginning of the last century, the production was diversified into artificial carbon and electric graphite.
All activities are concentrated in one group of companies which the following firms are part of:

1850
1855

Conrad Conradty establishes a bronze factory in Nuremberg, later expansion of product range by pencils and colour pencils.

1880

Relocation of the company to Röthenbach an der Pegnitz under the name of C. Conradty.

1884

Production changeover to carbon rods for electrical arc lamps ('Noris' and 'Kronen' carbon rods).

1900
1909

Production expansion by electric graphite.

1917

Completion of the electrode plant, C. Conradty is first manufacturer of graphite electrodes on the continent.

1970
1973

Joint Venture of C. Conradty with Technica (Bulgaria). Establishment of ConTech as company for patented coating of graphite electrodes.

1974

Joint Venture of Conradty and V.A.W. (Germany). Establishment of COVA Kunstkohle- und Grafitgesellschaft, origin of the brand name 'COVA'.

2000
2004

Graphite India Ltd. acquires Conradty-Group. Name changed to Graphite COVA GmbH.
